THE SETTING
Kvarner Bay keeps some of the clearest water in continental Europe, and a fraction of the crowds you will find further south. Wake to a swim before anyone else is up. Lose an afternoon to the market and the harbour. Watch the light go from a boat, then walk to dinner. It is the Adriatic with the volume turned down, and it makes far more sense as a home than as a fortnight once a year.
